Piya has completed her Masters in Applied Psychology, specializing in Clinical practice, at the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Mumbai. She also deepened her knowledge in psychology when she was working as a Teaching Assistant to the Masters students of Counseling at the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Mumbai. She has also published psychological research on the experiences of students with suicidal ideation.
As a psychotherapist, she is sensitive to each individual’s uniqueness and thereby incorporates a trauma informed, eclectic approach to her practice, borrowing from schools of Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Play and Art therapy. She has acquired an in-depth understanding of the applications of the Rational Emotive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a modem of psychotherapy and has also looked at its applications in family and couples therapy as well as for young adults.
She has had experience working with children and young adults, as well as older clients addressing issues of anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, family and interpersonal relationship conflicts, other emotional regulation and behavioral concerns stemming from ADHD and learning difficulties. She believes in compassionately and empathetically scaffolding to help build autonomy within her clients.She creates an inclusive, non judgemental, safe space for her clients to express their thoughts and emotions , gain insight, work on their well being and improve their relationships with themselves and others.
She believes that holistic therapy can heal and improve mental health and, thereby, the quality of life. Surabhi takes an empathetic and non-judgmental approach, creating a conducive environment for growth. She strives to incorporate the key values of honesty, integrity, transparency, and positive regard into the therapy process.
